Leadership
Presidents Message
Am I excited? I think that’s the number one question that’s been posed to me over the last eighteen months, since I made
the decision to take on the role as Chapter President. My answer has remained the same “ABSOLUTELY”! How can I not be excited to be part of such an amazing group of people? Since joining the chapter 13 years ago, MPI-OC has been a place of learning, business, networking, discovery, and where lifelong friendships have been formed. To lead an organization that has given so much to me is an honor! I hope to be able to give back a portion of what has been given to me over the years.
You may have your own MPI-OC friends, or you may not. I personally have many MPI friends. In looking at the membership roster there are 29 people that are still members from when I joined in 1998. I can honestly say that I have a personal relationship with each of them. I can also say that there are people within in the MPI organization that have literally changed
my life. In talking with other board members about their experiences I hear similar stories. Did you know that Anne Hallinan was with Eric Kingstad’s wife when she went into labor with their oldest son? Or that Alex Doyle has known Eve Edwards (a long time MPI-OC member who recently retired) for nearly 20 years. And these are just the personal relationships – the professional relationships and opportunities are endless. How many job transition stories can we relate back to MPI-OC? I can personally claim two in 13 years. How Marketplace opportunities have been connected as a direct result to our association with MPI? Mine are countless.
Why do I tell you this? Simple – there are some members that have not had the same experience. There are some chapter members that have come to a meeting and walked away without connecting with a single person. Our desire, as your Board of Directors, is that each of our members not only receives the best educational opportunity available and you also receive the maximum Marketplace opportunity available. Wouldn’t it also be awesome if lifelong meaningful relationships were formed as well!?!
In order to make this goal of connection happen your Board of Directors has been working hard to put some targets in place for this coming year. Our full Business Plan is always available on our website at www.mpioc.org, under the About tab, then under the Membership and Chapters sub tab. As a result of our Board Touch calls that we conduct twice a year (yes, we do listen to you!) we have some exciting things put together in our Business plan that will enhance our goal of connectivity this year:
- Provide organized networking opportunities at 4 of the 8 monthly education programs, allowing members to get to know each other
- Organize 5 community outreach programs for members to participate in
- Hold 4 events outside the Portland Metro area for non-Portland based members, including 2 socials and 2 education events
- Hold a day of education prior to Bravo Tradeshow
- Maximize social media to interact with members
- Offer membership opportunity to vote online to select monthly education topics
- Monthly meeting announcements to be made personally by board members post meetings to members individually
- Create Marketplace opportunities at various levels for all supplier members to have ample occasions to participate
- Ensure Marketplace benefits are of value to our partners
These are just a few highlights of our business plan. We have 125 strategies that support our 27 goals for the year. It’s a tall task and I am confident our ROCKIN’ team will get it done. I look forward to being a part of the team that will accomplish the goal of connectivity for our members. If at the end of the year we can say that we connected our membership – we will be a better chapter for it! Thank you for your trust in allowing me to lead you!
