CMM (granted by Meeting Professionals International):  Ten years of meeting experience is required to apply for the Certification in Meeting Management (CMM). The onsite program is 5½ days and two evenings. Within one week participants must successfully pass an online essay examination based on the coursework presented and then submit a newly created business plan and receive a passing score.  *Already signed up for the October 15-20, 2012 CMM onsite?  The scholarship can reimburse you, or use the dollars for 2013.

CMP (issued by the Convention Industry Council):  The foremost certification of the meetings, conventions and exhibitions industry, the CMP program recognizes individuals who have achieved the industry's highest standard of professionalism. Established in 1985, the CMP credential increases the proficiency of meeting professionals by:

  • Identifying a body of knowledge;
  • Establishing a level of knowledge and performance necessary for certification;
  • Stimulating the advancement of the art and science of meeting management;
  • Increasing the value of practitioners to their employers;
  • Recognizing and raising industry standards, practices and ethics;
  • Maximizing the value received from the products and services provided by Certified Meeting Professionals.

Testing dates coincides with those of the PCMA Annual Conference and MPI’s World Education Congress.  Tests are also administered at multiple locations on the same dates.  Visit http://mpioc.org/cmp-and-cmm-certification for deadlines and details.  First exam deadline is October 25 for January 7 test date.  *If this award is not granted in November 2011, there will be an opportunity to apply before the July CMP test dates.  See the ORacle or the MPI-OC website for updates.

CMP CONCLAVE - June 9 - 11, 2012 in Tampa Bay, Florida:   As the industry’s only exclusive meeting of Certified Meeting Professionals, the CMP Conclave is a unique event for CMPs who wish to contribute to their profession, network with peers, and work on continued development of the CMP examination, as well as gain valuable continuing-education knowledge.

Three Categories of Funds

The following gives critical information for the three “categories” of scholarship money. Each category is followed by the individual scholarship funds in that category.

It is important for you to understand the differences between the funds before completing your actual application. For example: if you are a planner enrolled in school and pursuing a degree, you qualify for Category I - If you are a supplier or planner, attending school or another program, you qualify for scholarships in Category II or III. Based on your application, we make the final determination as to which fund.

CATEGORY I – College Education Funding is money designated for college work towards undergraduate or graduate degrees and requires acceptance in a program of study.

The application deadline for the next major funding for the academic year is March 31, 2010. However, additional money could be available in the fund, so applications are accepted throughout the year. Application for these scholarships must be made a minimum of three (3) months early so as to meet your needed deadline. For example:  If you are attending a winter semester, you must submit your application three (3) months minimum before you need to know if you received an award. Please see the following for specific qualifications for our current Category I scholarship fund.

CATEGORY II - General Leadership Education or Academic Funding is money designated for knowledge/education sought inside or outside the traditional academic institution. Examples of this education would be college courses for suppliers as well as planners, executive development programs, or industry-specific leadership programs like Certification in Meeting Planning (CMP) or MPI’s Certification in Meeting Management (CMM) program. If applying for the CMM, applicants must be pre-accepted into the program. Read About the CMM Program

If money is available, applications are accepted and processed quarterly. Application must be made a minimum of three (3) months early so as to meet your needed deadline. For example: If you are attending a fall program, you must submit your application three (3) months minimum before it is needed. Please see below for specific qualifications for the current scholarship funds.

CATEGORY III – MPI Programs is money designated specifically for leadership, career and educational opportunities offered exclusively by MPI itself. These would include tuition awards for such programs as MPI’s well known Institutes program - and fees for first-time attendance at MPI conferences.

If money is available, applications are processed quarterly. Application must be made a minimum of three (3) months early so as to meet your needed deadline. For example:  If you are attending a winter program, you must submit your application three (3) months minimum before it is needed. Please see below for specific qualifications.
